The calendar turns its page,
and as if on cue
the landscape’s stage begins
the choreography of a scene change,
subtly—
the audience unaware at first
with muted colors of
dull yellow and brown mixed
among the green, adding
hints of oranges and reds,
emboldening the hues
as the days grow shorter
and fog drifts
in with the sunrise
over and through
the trees into
October
